‘Jewish and Democratic’ – Film and Panel Discussion sponsored by Meretz USA
ID BLUES - JEWISH AND DEMOCRATIC (NY PREMIERE)
50 minutes
This year, we will be co-sponsoring the screening of the final and most controversial part in Haim Yavin’s powerful travelogue, “ID Blues – Jewish and Democratic”, which examines the daily lives and struggles facing Arab citizens in Israeli society.
Sunday, November 14, 4:00 pm @ The JCC in Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Ave @ 76th Street in New York City.
Often referred to as “Israel’s Walter Cronkite”, Mr. Yavin anchored “Mabat”, Israel’s primetime news roundup on Israeli television, for 4 decades. After staying out of Israel’s political fray for many years, his earlier documentary, “Land of the Settlers”, in 2005, established him as an important progressive voice in Israeli discourse.
Panel discussion immediately following this screening at 5 pm:

Following the film, please stick around and join us as Meretz USA Vice President, Prof. Leonard Grob, moderates an in-depth panel discussion with renowned Israeli historian, Prof. Benny Morris, and Israeli journalist, Aharon (Arale) Barnea, where we will probe the tensions inherent in Israel’s efforts to remain both Jewish and democratic.
With the Avigdor Lieberman-influenced “loyalty oath” dominating the agenda in Israel, this is a movie, and discussion, you won’t want to miss!
The panel discussion, part of the Festival's new "Speakeasy Cafe" series, gets underway at 5:00 PM, and is free and open to the public - even if you haven't seen the film.
