Beilin: The High Court proved today that Israel can defend itself without losing its humanity.

Meretz-Yachad Chairman Yossi Beilin said that it is sad that the ruling establishment in Israel is unable to grasp that the "neighbor procedure" and the torture used in Shin Bet interrogations blackened Israel's reputation unnecessarily and damaged its standing as the only democracy in the Middle East.

"Once again, the State of Israel should express its gratitude for the very existence of the High Court, which saved Israel from itself this time as well."

Yosi Beilin: The person who decided on the elimination of Sa'adi in Tul-Karm should have known that he endangers more Israelis than he might have saved.
Meretz-Yachad's Chairman, Yosi Beilin, says that the decision to continue with the eliminations policy, in spite of the relative tranquility in the territories, gives the murderous terror organizations an excuse and leads Israel into a security situation worse than it has been since the disengagement from Gaza. "Israel has to go back to the permanent agreement negotiations table and reach an agreement on the establishment of a Palestinian state, demanding the Palestinians do their own 'Altalena' (getting rid of an internal terror organization) after their state is created, just like Israel did in 1948."

Knesset Member of the Security and Foreign Affairs committee, Yosi Sarid demands that the IDF's Chief of staff immediately renew the military escort granted to the Palestinian children on their way to school in the southern part of the Hebron Mount.
The murder on Sunday of the youth from the Ma'on Farm, does not and cannot bring along the abandonment of the pupils that suffer on a regular basis at the hands of the settlers in the Hebron Mount, who have become infamous for acting like thugs. The mourners do deserve consideration, provided they do not act against the children of others.

Chair of Young Meretz-Yachad participates in a delegation of young leaders, by invitation of the American State Department.
Uri Zaki, the Chairman of Young Meretz-Yachad, returned this week from participating in a Israeli delegation of young leaders. The delegation that consisted of eight Israelis was hosted by the American committee for young political leaders. Along with Zaki, the Israeli delegation included four Likud members and three Labor members. It is the first time in over seven years that a Meretz-Yachad member participates in this event.

The delegation met with senior members of the federal and the local government in Washington, Chicago and in the state of Delaware. Among the people they met were Congress members, Madam the governor of Delaware, the national committee of the Democratic and Republican parties, senior officers at the Chicago city hall, high-tech people, experts in the shaping of public opinion, people from the Middle-East desk at the State department, and others. Meetings were also organized with Jewish organizations such as AIPAC, the Jewish Federation in Chicago and Delaware, and others. The delegation also visited various government and education institutions, a prison, an American air force base and a high-tech "incubator".

Zaki reported that even though the delegation members "complained" that in spite of Meretz-Yachad being the smallest of the parties represented in the delegation, its voice was heard as if it were he most important party, proves the importance of our representation in such delegations.
