About Tzali
Reshef
A leading light of the Israeli peace camp for
three decades, Tzali Reshef is a candidate for Knesset for the New
Movement-Meretz party. Reshef joined the party as a member of the "New
Movement" - a group of left-wing activists that decided to combine with Meretz
to create a revitalized social-democratic and peace party in Israel. He is
currently co-chairing the party's campaign communications team.
Reshef
joined politics through the Labor Party in 1975 as head of the party's student
wing. In 1978, he was a co-founder of the Peace Now movement, and served as its
director and "public face" for many years. In 1997, Reshef was named Labor
leader Ehud Barak's chief-of-staff, and he served in this position until Barak
became Prime Minister in 1999. Reshef later became a Labor Member of Knesset,
serving there for six months during 2002-03.
A lawyer by trade, Reshef
has argued for human rights, civil freedoms, and good governance in cases that
have reached Israel's Supreme Court. He received a Bachelor's Degree from
Hebrew University in Law and Economics, and a Master's Degree in Law from
Harvard University.
