About Tzali Reshef

Tzali ReshefA leading light of the Israeli peace camp for three decades, Tzali Reshef is a candidate for Knesset for the New Movement-Meretz party.  Reshef joined the party as a member of the "New Movement" - a group of left-wing activists that decided to combine with Meretz to create a revitalized social-democratic and peace party in Israel.  He is currently co-chairing the party's campaign communications team.  
 
Reshef joined politics through the Labor Party in 1975 as head of the party's student wing.  In 1978, he was a co-founder of the Peace Now movement, and served as its director and "public face" for many years.  In 1997, Reshef was named Labor leader Ehud Barak's chief-of-staff, and he served in this position until Barak became Prime Minister in 1999.  Reshef later became a Labor Member of Knesset, serving there for six months during 2002-03.
 
A lawyer by trade, Reshef has argued for human rights, civil freedoms, and good governance in cases that have reached Israel's Supreme Court.  He received a Bachelor's Degree from Hebrew University in Law and Economics, and a Master's Degree in Law from Harvard University.
