About Dr. Beilin:

Born in Israel in 1948, Dr. Yossi Beilin has been Chairman of Meretz-Yachad since March 2004. He has worked in public service since 1984, when he was appointed Cabinet Secretary. As a Member of Knesset for eleven years, Dr. Beilin has held many ministerial positions, including Deputy Foreign Minister, Deputy Finance Minister, Minister of Economy and Planning, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, and Minister of Justice.

Dr. Beilin has also been a leading proponent of the peace process. He initiated the secret talks that led to the Oslo Accords in 1993, headed the Israeli negotiations to the multilateral peace talks that occurred between 1992-1995, and was a negotiator at the Taba talks with the Palestinians in 2001. Parallel efforts by Dr. Beilin and Palestinian Yasser Abed Rabbo led to the Geneva Accord, launched in 2003.

Prior to entering politics, Dr. Beilin worked as a journalist and taught political science at Tel Aviv University, where he received his doctorate. He is the author of several books.
