Obama, Cairo and the Middle East:
A Discussion with Amb. Philip Wilcox, President of the Foundation for Middle East Peace

Join us on Tuesday, June 9th at 6:30 PM, as Ambassador (ret.) Philip Wilcox, President of the Foundation for Middle East Peace, discusses the Israel-Arab conflict in the wake of Barack Obama's June 4 Cairo address.

Almost five months into his tenure, the President will have concluded his first round of meetings with most of the region's key players, including the leaders of Israel, Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinian Authority.  Ambassador Wilcox will analyze where the peace process stands and the role being played by the Obama administration.

The event will take place at 'Beit Shalom' located at 114 West 26th St. (just west of Sixth Ave.), 10th Floor in New York City.

About AMBASSADOR PHILIP C. WILCOX, JR. (RET.)

 

Philip C. Wilcox, Jr. is President of the Foundation for Middle East Peace, a Washington D.C.-based foundation devoted to fostering peace between Israelis and Palestinians.  Wilcox retired from the U.S. Foreign Service in September 1997 after 31 years of service.

Born in Denver in 1937, Wilcox attended public schools, graduated from Williams College with a BA in History and from the Stanford Law School in 1961 with an LLB.

After teaching school in Sierra Leone, West Africa, and practicing law in Denver, Wilcox entered the Foreign Service in 1966. He served in Laos, Indonesia and Bangladesh. . His last overseas assignment was as Chief of Mission and U.S. Consul General, Jerusalem.

In Washington, Wilcox held a variety of assignments, including Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Middle Eastern Affairs, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Intelligence and Research and as Ambassador at Large and Coordinator for Counter Terrorism.

In 2002 Wilcox received the Distinguished Service Award from Americans for Peace Now, and in 2004 the Lewis B. Sohn Human Rights Award from the United Nations Association - National Capital Area.   He and his wife Cynda live in Bethesda, Maryland.
